REVIEW: PORTRAITURE PHOTOGRAPHY
This photoshoot was also taken over a prolonged period of time - I used a range of subjects to create a series of different portraits. Each individual had a different theme and I undertook editing to make the pictures saturate with colour in the right areas. I used a range of different angles to test my skills - taking care to practice my low shots as I found I was weakest in that area of photography. I used a series of props such as face paint, makeup, bags and fashion clothes on my model in order to get differently-styled pictures.
LEARNING POINT: CANDIDS:
Candid defines as truthfulness or straightforwardness or being frank. When we apply this to photography, we derive photos that are true and honest. Famous photographers, best known for their candid photography include Helen Levitt (see below). Candid photography is best used in wedding photography and in photo journals, where you have to photograph the subjects as their authentic selves, neither posing, not looking at the camera.
Candid photography is quite the opposite from portraiture photography, where the subjects are deliberate with their actions – candid photography however, is always about making the subject forget they are in the reach of a camera. This idea of candid photography contradicts with the current theme, portraiture, however, it is one key area I discovered when researching portraiture photography.
