PROJECT BRIEF
This section of my portfolio will discuss the main idea of the unit 2 leadership project I will be undertaking as a group.
The aim of the project is to create a montage of each form in the whole school in a vintage polaroid style, to be displayed in the school reception for visitors, parents, potential students, students, and staff to view. The challenge is to demonstrate through each image the 6 Langley Grammar School ethos words, being:
-
Caring
-
Confident
-
Well-Rounded
-
Independent
-
Responsible
-
Creative
This should be done in a creative way, that must be decided by us. The images must be in a polaroid format to give a homely, vintage feel to the area. This project was given to us by the school council, as a project they wanted completed – as it served as a challenging task, we were given this project to challenge us beyond our comfort zone, thus being the perfect project for unit 2 of this Arts Award.
This project will require, just by looking at the brief, heavy communication skills; organisational skills; time management with the ability to meet deadlines; the ability to be articulate for the photographing and editing process; the willingness to research different styles; and, most importantly, confidence to talk loudly and clearly to groups of people and be able to direct them without hesitation.
Considering all these qualities that are required for the project and many more, I believe the skills I would like to develop the most is my confidence and ability to stand in front of crowds and talk to them directly. This will be developed as I am taking the role of main communication – this means that although I will be communicating digitally, I will also be visiting forms and speaking to classes of 15-30 students and telling them what the project is clearly, why we are doing it and how they are an integral part of the process. This will require me to be loud and clear, as well as have the ability to answer questions on the spot in an articulate manner, being from the sixth form.
In my group, my partner and I will be sharing inter-linked roles, for example, while I am communicating with the audiences, she will be directing the audiences. For example, during the photoshoot, I will be telling the students what to do, whilst she will be physically picturing the process and taking the final picture. Sometimes, we may exchange roles so we can both get experience in all the fields of photography. We are both going to be taking turns with editing – for example, she will be editing the image and cropping it, whilst I put it into a square format and overlay the polaroid template on the image. We will both be making activity logs after every photoshoot and then comparing them to see how we both found the experience.
