ACTION PLAN

Discussion point: the main plan for my photography portfolio - Unit 1

I have chosen photography as my specific art form as I felt it was an area I had worked on before and liked to do, but also a field I wanted to experiment more with. I previously had a social media account where I would solely post my own photography and so my hobby for photography festered over the years.

Strengths:

  • Have experience editing in photoshop – layers, filters etc.

  • Have experience with a tripod and camera set up

  • Am aware of different angles and their names and significance

  • Converted and saved images and videos in appropriate formats for photographic uses

Weaknesses:

  • Have not used a digital camera before – do not know how to use one

  • Have not imported/exported images from digital cameras before

  • Have not completed professional photoshoots before – must learn how to deal with subjects to get them in their best form

  • Have not had to consider possible implications of taking group photography (i.e. consent)

  • Have not used complex photography methods in the past

I would like to enhance my photography skills in order to create a professional portfolio for myself to reflect on and add to over the years. I would like to try new photography methods and observe more art as it is, supposedly, a very thought-provoking subject.

In order to test and challenge myself, I would like to complete various photoshoots. The photoshoots I have chosen to do are:

  • Alphabet Photography

  • Shadow Photography

  • Nature Photography

  • Portraiture Photography

  • Glow Photography

  • Photograms

These photoshoots will be set in various locations, such as inside the classroom, outside the school, in my house, the dark room, staircases, and woodlands. This will allow me to try photographing in different landscapes, giving me a broader experience. Throughout my photoshoot, I will mostly be using my Samsung camera to take pictures. I hope to spend no more than two 1-hour sessions per photoshoot, excluding any pictures taken out of school, and my main subject will be my peer, Masval Raina.

REVIEW:

Through my work in each of these photoshoots, I have learned many various skills, techniques and general knowledge needed for a career in photography. I really liked my Shadow photography photoshoot as it required the use of various camera settings and careful posing to capture the necessary elements of the picture - in essence, I feel it challenged me most. Throughout the photoshoots however, I thoroughly enjoyed myself as the experience was invaluable, in particular with the use of photograms,

In terms of my action plan, I have turned most of my weaknesses into strengths, however, I still need to gain more experience in using the digital camera - I will fulfil this aim in Unit 2, when I am doing the main photography project.
