ALPHABET

My first photo shoot capturing everyday, familiar objects that resemble letters of the alphabet

REVIEW: LETTER PHOTOGRAPHY

This was my first attempt at letter photography and in general, taking serious photography, in a while. I found myself inspired by my surroundings, both inside and outside, with my photographs from this shoot spanning from verdant nature to everyday classroom objects. I have attempted to find as many letters as I can, and after undergoing several checking and editing processes, I have compiled this mini portfolio of my work in the style of a masonry with alphabet.

LEARNING POINT: SYMMETRY:

Symmetry in photography is achieved when photos appear to have equal weight or value on each side instead of weight being shifted onto alternate sides of the image. Symmetry in photography is often associated with non-living objects such as buildings, landscapes, etc. This is because it is often harder to capture people in a state of symmetry as symmetry is generally assumed to be a type of ‘perfection’ – however, this idea is subjective as everyone’s idea of perfection is very different.

I have implemented symmetric photography particularly in the letter ‘M’, where I have used photographic composition to allow the image to appear identical on both sides.
